Mining & Mineral Processing Pumps (Dewatering, Slurry, Reagents)

Mines live or die by uptime. We pair self-priming and submersible slurry for pits, AODD for portable solids and chemical transfer, progressive-cavity for viscous tailings and thickener underflow, mag-drive for reagents, and multistage/centrifugal for pressure sets and process water. Brands: Gorman-Rupp, BJM, Wilden, Yamada, ARO, Netzsch, Finish Thompson, Iwaki, Grundfos, Goulds, Griswold, Roper, Blackmer, LMI, Neptune, Emec, Flux, J.L. Wingert.

Best-Fit Pumps for Mining Duty

Service Best Pump Type Recommended Brands Why It’s Best
Open pit / underground dewatering Self-priming trash or submersible Gorman-Rupp (self-priming); BJM (submersible) Solids handling with fast clean-out or immersed reliability
Slurry transfer (cyclones, sumps) AODD (bolted, abrasion kits) Wilden; Yamada; ARO Run-dry, dead-head, solids tolerant; portable skids
Tailings / thickener underflow Progressive-cavity (VFD, wear-resistant) Netzsch Steady flow at high viscosity/solids with low shear
Reagent transfer (acids, solvents, collectors) Mag-drive sealless centrifugal Finish Thompson DB/UC; Iwaki MX/MD Leak-free containment and broad chemical compatibility
Flocculant/polymer make-down & dosing Peristaltic / digital diaphragm LMI KML/KBL; LMI PD/TD; Neptune; Emec Handles off-gassing and shear-sensitive dosing accurately
Process water / booster / washdown End-suction / multistage centrifugal Grundfos NB/NK; Grundfos CR; Goulds; Griswold Efficient pressure/flow backbone with easy service
Fuel & lube service (shops & gensets) External gear (relief/bypass) Roper; Blackmer PD flow across viscosity, robust for mobile/plant skids
Drum/IBC to day tanks (reagents) Drum/IBC pump + accessories Flux; J.L. Wingert (columns/quills) Safe makeup; correct injection hardware for verification

Note: We match metallurgy and elastomers to pH, chlorides and abrasives; we also confirm suction geometry and NPSH at worst-case levels.

How We Engineer Mine Duty

  • Hydraulics: size near BEP; verify NPSH/wear margins at worst sump levels.
  • Wear: abrasion-resistant materials, replaceable liners and easy clean-outs.
  • Controls: VFDs/soft-start, level/float logic, pressure/flow interlocks.
  • Safety: PD relief/bypass, spill plans, grounding/bonding for flammables.
  • Mobility: skid frames, quick-disconnects, and hose packages for field moves.

Common Mining Uses

  • Open pit/underground dewatering
  • Mill sumps and cyclone feed return
  • Thickener underflow and tailings
  • Heap leach reagent transfer
  • Fuel/lube service for mobile fleets
  • Process water and washdown
  • Polymer/flocculant dosing
  • pH/ORP control for wastewater
  • Drum/IBC makeup to day tanks
  • Emergency bypass/portable AODD

Move Rock. Move Water. Keep Running.

Mining Pump FAQs

AODD vs. slurry centrifugal—when to choose each?

AODD excels for portable, variable or unknown solids and for chemical service; slurry-duty centrifugal is ideal for fixed, high-throughput loops with known solids and head.

Why PC pumps for tailings/underflow?

Progressive-cavity delivers steady flow at very high viscosity/solids with low shear—great for thickeners and paste backfill where constant feed matters.

How do you extend pump life in abrasive service?

Right metallurgy/liners, slower tip speeds (VFD), generous NPSH margin, straight suction runs, strainers where sensible, and scheduled wear inspections.
