Metal Finishing & Plating Pumps (Acid, Caustic, Cyanide, Rinse)
Plating rooms demand leak-free chemical handling, precise dosing, and easy sanitation. We deploy mag-drive sealless for acids/solvents, digital metering for brighteners and pH, AODD for rugged transfer and filter loops, drum/IBC for make-up, and submersible/self-priming for rinse/drag-out sumps. Brands: Finish Thompson, Iwaki, LMI, Neptune, Emec, Walchem, Wilden, Yamada, ARO, Flux, Grundfos, BJM, Gorman-Rupp, J.L. Wingert.
Best-Fit Pumps for Metal Finishing
Duty | Best Pump Type | Recommended Brands | Why It’s Best |
---|---|---|---|
Acid / caustic bath circulation & transfer | Mag-drive sealless centrifugal (PP/PVDF/ETFE) | Finish Thompson DB/UC; Iwaki MX/MD | No mechanical seal leak path; broad chemical compatibility |
Carbon / particulate filter loops | AODD (bolted) or mag-drive with filter pot | Wilden; Yamada; ARO; Finish Thompson | Handles fines and bypass; easy maintenance & CIP |
pH, ORP, brighteners, nickel make-up | Digital diaphragm metering / peristaltic | LMI PD/TD; Neptune 500/600; Emec; Walchem; LMI KML/KBL | High turndown ppm control; hose option for off-gassing |
Rinse/drag-out sumps & pit lift | Submersible (abrasion/corrosion) / self-priming | BJM (submersible); Gorman-Rupp (self-priming) | Immersed reliability or above-grade serviceability |
Drum/IBC chemical make-up | Drum/IBC pump | Flux F-Series | Fast changeovers; tube sets matched to chemistry |
Plant utility water, scrubbers | Inline / end-suction / multistage | Grundfos TPE/NB/NK; Grundfos CR | Efficient loops and compact high pressure where needed |
Instrumentation & accessories | Columns, quills, sample hardware | J.L. Wingert | Proper injection and verification for dosing accuracy |
Note: We verify SDS, elastomers, plastics, grounding/bonding, and overflow/venting to meet your EHS plan.

How We Engineer Plating Duty
- Containment: sealless where compatible; correct elastomers and plastics from SDS.
- Filtration: flow/velocity targets, carbon packs, bypass and easy clean-outs.
- Dosing: back-pressure and anti-siphon; calibration columns for validation.
- Rinse: drag-out capture, sump materials, and level interlocks.
- Compliance: bonding/grounding, ventilation, and spill/overflow planning.

Metal Finishing Pump FAQs
When is mag-drive preferred over sealed pumps in plating?
For acids/solvents and VOCs where containment matters and viscosity/temperature suit sealless designs. Otherwise we use proper seals and flush plans.
Peristaltic or diaphragm for additives?
Diaphragm for clean brighteners and pH control at pressure; peristaltic when fluids off-gas, crystallize, or you want hose-only wetted parts.
How do I size a filter loop on a plating bath?
Start with 3–5 turnovers/hour, select AODD or mag-drive at target ΔP across media, and include bypass and gauges. We’ll confirm with curves and media data.
