Acid Transfer & Dosing Pumps
Move aggressive acids without leaks, seal failures, or corrosion. We size and supply mag‑drive sealless centrifugals, AODD pumps, and chemical metering pumps in PP, PVDF, ETFE‑lined, and 316SS for hydrochloric, sulfuric, nitric, HF, and more—shipped fast from CA, WA, and AZ.
Which Pump Technologies Survive Acids?
Problem / Requirement | Best Technologies | Recommended Brands | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Aggressive acids (HCl, H2SO4, HF) | Mag‑drive sealless centrifugal | Iwaki, Finish Thompson | PP/PVDF/ETFE wet ends; eliminate seals & emissions |
Off‑gassing (NaOCl) / crystallizing fluids | AODD (air‑operated diaphragm) | Wilden, Yamada, ARO | Run‑dry, dead‑head capable; easy maintenance |
Precision acid dosing / pH control | Metering (API 675) / Solenoid / Peristaltic | LMI, Walchem, Neptune, Emec | PTFE diaphragms & PVDF heads resist corrosion |
Ultra‑pure or high‑temp acid transfer | ETFE‑lined or metallic mag‑drive | Iwaki, Finish Thompson | SiC bearings, reinforced magnet sets |

How We Engineer Pumps for Acids (So You Don’t Leak, Decouple, or Gall Bearings)
- Chemical compatibility first—PP, PVDF, ETFE, PTFE diaphragms, PVDF heads, SiC bearings
- Torque / SG / viscosity checks to prevent magnetic decoupling in sealless pumps
- Run‑dry / low‑flow protection for mag‑drives (power monitors, flow switches, temp sensors)
- Vent / priming strategy for off‑gassing oxidizers (like NaOCl)
- Secondary containment / leak detection when the SDS says “critical”
Common Acid Applications & Fluids
- Hydrochloric acid (HCl)
- Sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
- Nitric acid (HNO3)
- Hydrofluoric acid (HF)
- Phosphoric acid
- Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl)
- Ferric chloride (FeCl3)
- Pickling, etching, anodizing lines
- Battery & EV electrolyte transfer
- pH control / neutralization skids

Acid Pumping FAQs
What’s the safest pump type for strong acids?
For most acids, mag‑drive sealless centrifugal pumps (Iwaki, FTI) in PP, PVDF or ETFE are the safest—no seal, no emissions, fewer failure modes. For dosing, use PVDF‑headed metering pumps (LMI, Walchem).
Can I run a mag‑drive acid pump dry?
No—mag‑drives rely on the pumped fluid for cooling & lubrication. We strongly recommend run‑dry protection (power/temperature monitors, flow switches).
Should I choose PP, PVDF, or ETFE?
PP works for many acids at ambient temps. PVDF covers more aggressive chemistries & higher temps. ETFE‑lined metallic builds handle high pressure & temperature with excellent resistance.
Can AODD pumps handle acids?
Yes—with proper wetted materials (PVDF, PTFE) and diaphragm selection. They are ideal for off‑gassing, solids, and transfer duty.
